Please note this is a channel-specific article only applicable to Amazon.


An Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) is a 10-character alphanumeric unique identifier assigned by Amazon and its partners for product identification within the Amazon organization.


For cases where you already have an ASIN for the item you want to list, you can use this instead of another Product Identifier barcode. It is possible to submit this information through Linnworks, but we cannot guarantee that you will not encounter any errors from Amazon while creating listing due to any existing details in their database.


The ASIN needs to be added to your items either as a Barcode value, a Product Identifier or an Extended Property and mapped to the respective Attribute in the Amazon configurator. For Amazon, the Product ID for a listing is divided into two parts i.e. you will also need to define a Product ID type as ASIN to use it on the listings. Please read through the below options to determine in which cases you need to add this to your items.




Adding Barcode values

If you would not be using any other barcodes (EAN, UPC, etc) on certain SKUs that you want to list to Amazon using ASINs, then you can add the ASINs to the Barcode values on your items. 


Item Barcode values are visible in Inventory > My Inventory > (click on the SKU) Product Details > General tab > Barcode field. This tab also enables you to add and edit the item Barcode values. Please see the respective General tab documentation for full details on the tab and how to add the values. 


You can also add Barcode values to your items in bulk by using a regular Inventory import.



Adding Product Identifiers

All item Product Identifiers are visible in Inventory > My Inventory > (click on the SKU) Product Details > Product Identifiers tab. This tab also enables you to add and edit any Product Identifier to the item one by one. Please see the respective Product Identifiers documentation for full details on the tab and how to add the values. 


You can also add Product Identifiers in bulk by using the specified Product Identifiers import. To add more than one Product Identifier type to one SKU, the SKU should be added in the CSV on two lines, with each having its own Product Identifier type and value.



Adding Extended Properties

All item Extended Properties are visible in Inventory > My Inventory > (click on the SKU) Product Details > Extended Properties tab. This tab also enables you to add any Extended Property to the item one by one. Please see the respective Extended Properties documentation for full details.


You can also add Extended Properties in bulk by using either a regular Inventory Import with specifics for the Extended Properties configuration given here or by using the My Inventory Drag&Drop import for Extended properties as specified here.  


Please keep in mind that the Extended Property type for Product IDs should always be Attribute.



Mapping ASIN on Configurators

On Amazon Configurators, the Product IDs are tied to two mandatory Attributes:

  • Standard Product ID (Type)
  • Standard Product ID (Value)



In order to ensure the correct values are sent for both mandatory attributes, they need to be mapped to the correct fields on your items or added by using Default Values. Please see the below instructions to determine which option is the most suitable for you.



Mapping Barcode values:


By default, these two attributes will already be mapped respectively to Product.BarcodeType and Product.Barcode. 


This means that without any configuration changes, the Standard Product ID (Value) will already be set to be taken from Inventory > My Inventory > (click on the SKU) Product Details > General tab > Barcode field. If you have opted to use Barcode values, then you can leave the mapping here as it is set by default for the Standard Product ID (Value) attribute.


However, the Standard Product ID (Type) will by default be mapped to Product.Barcode, which is not actually a visible property in your system. This will produce a value based on a series of system check depending on the barcode value entry. This is set to then either identify the type as EAN, UPC or ISBN. If your goal is to use ASINs, then the mapping for Standard Product ID (Type) should be done in one of the following ways depending on your needs:


a) leave the Extended Property mapping blank and add the Default Value ASIN. All listing templates created with this configurator will be added with Product ID type ASIN automatically.

b) map the respective Extended Property name on your inventory items that will include the name of the Product ID type and add the Default Value ASIN. If the SKU you are creating a listing for has a specifying EP added, the type will be taken from the EP. If there is no respective EP, the type will be added as ASIN from the Default Value.

c) add a specifying Extended Property that will include the name of the Product ID type to all items you want to list and map the respective EP. The type for the Product ID will always be taken from the respective EP. If the EP is not present, the type will be left blank and the listing creation will likely produce an error to indicate so.



Mapping Product Identifiers:


For the Standard Product ID (Type) attribute, the Extended Property mapping should be left blank and the Default Value should be added as ASIN. This ensures all listing templates created with this configurator will have the Product ID type ASIN added automatically.

For the Standard Product ID (Value) attribute, the Extended Property mapping should be selected as ProductIdentifier.ASIN. This ensures all listing templates created with this configurator will take the Product ID value from the Inventory > My Inventory > (click on the SKU) Product Details > Product Identifiers tab > ASIN entry.



Mapping Extended Properties:


For the Standard Product ID (Type) attribute, there are three options for the  Extended Property mapping:

a) leave the Extended Property mapping blank and add the Default Value ASIN. All listing templates created with this configurator will be added with Product ID type ASIN automatically.

b) map the respective Extended Property name on your inventory items that will include the name of the Product ID type and add the Default Value ASIN. If the SKU you are creating a listing for has a specifying EP added, the type will be taken from the EP. If there is no respective EP, the type will be added as ASIN from the Default Value.

c) map the respective Extended Property name on your inventory items that will include the name of the Product ID type. The type for the Product ID will always be taken from the respective EP. If the EP is not present, the type will be left blank and the listing creation will likely produce an error to indicate so.

For the Standard Product ID (Value) attribute, the Extended Property mapping should be selected as the respective Extended Property name on your inventory items that will include the value of the Product ID.
