That would save us hours. Really good idea.
I'd like this too, often just adding one column that's already in one standard report to another standard report is all we need to do, would save a lot of time trawling through the database structure and writing SQL from scratch

If you showed the SQL that is driving the default reports it would be much easier for users to create custom reports...
A good way to do this might be rather than "+ New" button creating a blank report, it would instead "+ Clone" create a new report starting with the bare bones of the already loaded report.
This would make it easy to see what is going on behind each report and customise it.
