Following Royal Mail's mandatory international customs updates, effective June 2, 2026, CN22 forms will no longer be generated. All international orders processed through Royal Mail integrations will now use the CN23 form instead.

Enabling CN23 customs forms

To enable CN23 printing, go to Shipping > Integrations > Royal Mail > Services > Edit. You will see two format options:

  • Print Customs Form (4×6) - prints the CN23 in 4×6 format, compatible with thermal printers.
  • Print Customs Form (A4) - prints the CN23 in A4 format.

Enable the option that suits your printing setup and save your changes. If both options are enabled, the CN23 will print in A4 format.

Existing services: If customs form printing was already enabled before the June 2 release, it will remain enabled and CN23 forms will default to 4×6 format automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

1. Can I print the CN23 on my thermal printer?

Yes. Enable Print Customs Form (4×6) to print the CN23 in the same label format as Royal Mail shipping labels, so both can be printed from the same thermal printer.

2. Can the CN23 include an electronic signature?

Yes. A signature can be configured under Shipping > Integrations > Royal Mail > Services > Edit > Signature.

Enable Print Customs Form (4x6) to print the CN23 form in the same 4x6 label format as Royal Mail labels, so both can be printed from the same printer.

3. Where do I set the Category / Nature of Item?

This is configured via the Shipment Type field for each service under Shipping > Integrations > Royal Mail > Services > Edit. The available options are:

  • E-Commerce Sale of Goods (B2C)
  • Commercial Sale of Goods (B2B)
  • Returned Goods
  • Documents
  • Sample
  • Gift
  • Other

4. How do I add the item description to the CN23?

The CN22Description property has been renamed to GoodsDescription. After the June 2 release, go to Shipping > Integrations > Royal Mail > Properties and confirm that GoodsDescription is mapped to the correct item property. If it is not mapped, the standard item title will be used as a fallback. Note that item titles are limited to 30 characters.

5. How are B2B orders identified, and how do they affect the Category/Nature of Item?

We previously used the Company Name field to identify business orders. Now, we are adding a new order property: IsBusinessOrder.

If an order is marked as E-Commerce Sale of Goods (B2C) or legacy Sale of Goods, and IsBusinessOrder = True, it will automatically change to Commercial Sale of Goods (B2B).

If IsBusinessOrder = False and the shipment is marked as Commercial Sale of Goods (B2B), it will automatically change back to E-Commerce Sale of Goods (B2C).
