What's happening
Shopify is retiring its older REST API, and Linnworks is moving your Shopify integration over to Shopify's newer GraphQL API.
We're carrying out this upgrade for you, there's nothing you need to click, configure, or schedule.
The way orders look in Linnworks doesn't change and your existing order statuses, download rules, and inventory sync all continue to work as before.
Why this is a good thing
The GraphQL API is faster and gives us room to support more of what Shopify offers. Once your integration is upgraded, you'll benefit from:
Faster order downloads. Orders come into Linnworks noticeably quicker, up to around 5x faster.
Multi-fulfilment support. If an order ships in multiple parts (different couriers, different locations, or partial shipments), Linnworks can handle this now.
Presentment currency support. Orders can be downloaded in the currency your buyer actually paid in, rather than only your store's default currency.
Improved tax and duty handling, including support for stores using Avalara for tax calculations.
New channel settings (you don't need to touch them)
As part of the upgrade, some new configuration options will show up under your channel integration configuration screen. We are not switching any of them on for you, so the integration will keep working the same way it does today.
If you'd like to explore any of these settings yourself later on, they'll be there, but you don't need to do anything now.
For reference, here's what you might see:
- Split Orders by Shopify Fulfilments controls whether Linnworks creates a separate order for each fulfilment. This is the most important new setting to understand.
- OFF (Default): When upgrading and it’ll defaults to OFF after the upgrade. Most customers upgrading want orders to behave the same way they did before managing the fulfilment routing within Linnworks, so they don’t need to change it.
- ON: Other customers may rely on Shopify’s fulfilment routing and want each fulfilment to be tracked independently. Thus, the setting should be ON for Linnworks will mirror Shopify’s fulfilment assignments regardless of location mapping in the integration. A Block from Merge flag is applied to each order to prevent auto-merging. Related orders are linked via order relationships.
If you’re not sure, leave it OFF. You can change this setting at any time without re-authenticating or re-syncing.
- Presentment Currency controls whether orders download in the buyer's payment currency.
- OFF (Default): Orders download in your shop's base currency
- ON: Orders download in the currency the buyer actually paid in. This will be for customers selling in multiple currencies and want order values, and invoices in Linnworks to reflect exactly what each customer paid in their own currency.
- Uses Avalara for Tax Calculations adapts how Linnworks reads tax data so it lines up with Avalara's calculations.
- OFF (Default): Standard Shopify tax handling. You don't use Avalara, it simply doesn't apply to you.
- ON: you use Avalara's Shopify plugin to calculate sales tax.
- Download Duties as a Service Item (under Order Taxes) controls whether import duties show up as a separate line item on the order.
- OFF (Default): No duty line item is added. This matches the behaviour you're used to today. Order line counts, totals, and printed invoices are unaffected. Duty amounts are still available in the order XML.
- ON: Import duties are added as a service line item on the order, alongside your products.
